Since its reopening in October 2009 the Neues Museum has housed the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection as well as the Museum for Pre- and Early History, supplemented by works from the Antiquities Collection.

The Egyptian Museum contains one of the world's outstanding collections of artefacts from ancient Egyptian civilisation. Artworks from the period of King Akhnaten (ca. 1350 BC) from Tell el-Amarna raise the collection to an international standard. Famous works such as the Bust of Queen Nefertiti and the "Berlin Green Head" attract some 500,000 visitors every year.
